Through out history the Bible as our source of light (Ps 119) has been so influential that people have taken great lengths to get rid of its influence. Leaders of different nations and in different eras wanted the hearts of the people, so they turned to manipulation and fear, burning the books, jailing and murdering people. They wanted what only God can rightfully have.

No page was turned to ash without cause and no death was in vain. Ultimate victory from the blood and ashes that were spilt was sown in faith. Family members hearts would ache from their loss, yet they decided to cling to the hope found within the Word more than they did before. In darkness, the light spreads when we honor those who have gone before us and decide to pick up the baton. As a result the light shown brighter. When the people of God were persecuted, the Gospel spread. Their hearts belonged to God and their lives were a living sacrifice. Daily experiences burned. Anything sound familiar?

It’s important as we learn the content in the Bible, that we also learn how it has influenced history. We need to take care that we don’t let the sins of family, church and governmental leaders from the past cause us not to listen to their advice when they say to lean on the Word of God.

The Bible has power. It has the ability to influence people at a deeper level than laws, policies and movements do and leaders and influencers want that power. The Word tells us that “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind.” (2 Tim. 1:7) We have the ability to carry the power of God in our every day lives and I begin to unpack that in my book, Read The Book.

Covering popular topics like “How to Hear God” and “Understanding Times and Seasons” as well as unpopular topics including “Truth Used Against You” and “What the Bible Doesn’t Say” this book was written to engage the reader quickly and stir them to read the Bible with a fresh perspective.

The Bible says to:

To take courage… Deut. 31:6; Josh. 1:9

Have faith… Mark 11:24

Love your neighbors… Matt. 5:43

Live in purity… 1 Cor. 6:13, 18; 1 Tim. 4:12; Gal. 5:16-23

Be a peace-maker… Matt. 5:9

Be a hard worker… Ps. 90:17; Prov. 12:11; Col. 3:23

The problem is every day life makes all of these things so difficult, and THAT is the point of this book. I address the issue of living in todays world, wanting to live effectively but struggling to do so.
